Newnan, Georgia, is the “City of Homes”. Antebellum. Historic. Southern. Large and grand, showing the intricacies of another time, closely viewed from the street. Family homes, lived in generation after generation.
Sherman’s burning rampage left much of the area untouched due to Newnan being a hospital city for Confederate troops. An early American aesthetic thrives as a result. In fact, Newnan has six historic districts. Well worth a visit for people who enjoy Classical Revival, Neoclassical, Victorian, and Romanesque architecture.
Note: When I went to the help center (located in the historic courthouse), the lady was very helpful and gave me a brochure for directions of the historic area.
